Swim Lessons?

Andrew began swim lessons today. His lesson was supposed to be 20 minutes. It lasted over 30 because the first 20 minutes he cried...and cried...and cried. Well, it was more like this:
Andrew: Sob
Instructor: Do you want to go under the water?
Andrew: Sob, "Yeah"
(Count to 3, go under water)
Andrew: Gasp, Sob
It was really strange that everytime she asked if he was ready to go under water he would briefly pause from crying to say, "Yeah." He spent the last 10 minutes blowing bubbles and talking which was a relief.
I pray next week that he will adjust a little faster.

We start in a couple of weeks. I am sure our experience will equal yours. Good luck to you and Andrew!

Hi there. I linked over from Kenzie's blog and saw this post.

Just wanted to let you know that I over see an aquatics facility that instructs children in swim lessons weekly. We just finished another 9 week session and you'd be amazed at the differences in abilities and willingness of the children.

I had two children in the mom and tot class that wouldn't so much as put their toes in the water (and mom was there to hold them in the pool) on the first day and yesterday they were going underwater and the one year old was jumping into the pool.

Your little guy will do well once he realizes the instructor can be trusted and that he is in a safe, and FUN, place.

And just so you know, once that happens you'll need to safeguard EVERY collection of water he is exposed to because he will find himself thinking he is always safe in water even without supervision.

Love the pictures. Tons more to follow as he continues his lessons.
